API 16a: 6 months on

API Standards Article

Back in December 2017, ADC communicated imminent changes to API Standards (16A, 16AR and 20E) related to BOP and Well Control equipment that would have an impact on both operational and non-operational rig fleets worldwide. These changes have now been in effect since February 2018 and action is required by the drilling contractor to ensure compliance with API.

ADC’s BOP and Well Control Team Lead, Gary McQuade, published an article in IADC Drilling Contractor magazines that outlines the changes and offers some advice on planning for, mitigating against and preventing the associated operational risk.

North Sea Regulatory Compliance

With a number of rigs entering into the UK North Sea, there has been greater emphasis on ensuring the Safety and Environmentally Critical Elements (SECEs) are in compliance with the UK regulatory bodies. It is imperative to conduct a review of all aspects of the Company Management Systems and localised rig specific policy and procedures (active or deferred) in comparison with the UKCS latest regulatory and legislative requirements. Any assessment will also require consideration to the rig’s readiness to drill with regard to:
  • Company Management Systems with regards to Management of Health and Safety
  • Company Management Systems with regards to Environmental Compliance
  • Maintenance Management of Safety and Environmentally Critical Elements
  • Company Management Systems with regards to Crew Training and Competency

ADC Global Projects

ADCs global operations

2018 has been a significant year for ADC’s global operations, with projects being completed across the worlds in new and existing fields. As we enter into our 33rd year of business, we begin to reflect on the challenges that the industry has faced over the last 2 years. Surviving the longest downturn in drilling & exploration activity has certainly warranted an emphasis on business efficiency; not just from the service supply chain but also the way in which our clients operate.

ADC has continued to support our clients during the downturn and our focus has remained firmly fixed on ensuring the operability of the rig equipment, control systems and HSE management systems. Having retained our staff members, in addition to expanding the team, we have been able to offer our clients consistency and continuity, which in itself provides assurance that their project is being managed by competent individuals contributing to an integrated team of specialists.

Recent projects have taken us around the globe into both new and existing fields. As the industry recovers and continues to reinvigorate itself, we are equipped with RETAINED experience, TRAINED in the latest systems and COMMITTED to each and every project.
